You can Ritual Summon this card with “Chaos Form”. You can reveal this card in your hand; add 1 “Dark Magician”, or 1 non-Ritual monster that mentions it, from your Deck to your hand, then place 1 card from your hand on top of the Deck. When your opponent activates a monster effect (Quick Effect): You can return this card to the hand, and if you do, Special Summon 1 “Dark Magician” from your GY, and if you do that, negate that activated effect. You can only use each effect of “Illusion of Chaos” once per turn.
Illusion of Chaos is one of the most valuable (core) cards from the Booster Display Set Battle of Chaos. The set released on the 10th February 2022.
It is a Level 7 DARK Spellcaster Ritual monster with 2100 ATK and 2500 DEF. Its stats are similar to Dark Magician, but not as strong. However, it’s still a DARK Spellcaster. The Ritual Spell needed to summon this monster is Chaos Form, but you have other options available. By revealing this card in your hand, you can add a Dark Magician or any non-Ritual monster that mentions him in their text from your Deck to your hand, then return a card from hand to Deck.
The main purpose of Illusion of Chaos is to get to the support monsters of the archetype, such as Magician’s Rod and Magicians‘ Souls. Returning a card from your hand to the Deck isn’t a major issue as the cards you search for should give you back card advantage. This monster provides a new way to access support monsters for Dark Magician.
Its second effect is a Quick Effect that can be activated when the opponent activates a monster effect. By returning Illusion of Chaos to the hand, you can Special Summon a Dark Magician from the graveyard and negate the opponent’s activated effect. This is a useful negation if you are specifically Ritual Summoning this monster in a Dark Magician deck. And it returns to the hand to make the searching live again while also summoning Dark Magician.
Both effects can only be used once per turn, which is fine. This card is appreciated by the Dark Magician archetype, especially with the support monsters not being easily searchable. And this card provides a new way to access them, but many players might love this card just for Magicians‘ Souls in every Deck.
